The Voice of the Lord is upon the Waters

This week, my family and I took our yearly vacation to Cape Hatteras on the Outer Banks. Today is our third day here and everything has been great. The weather was a little dreary on Saturday morning, but since then, it has been perfect. Tomorrow is Memorial Day and we are looking forward to a great day (the ribs are already cooking). I am so grateful that God gives our family the opportunity to come to such a great place.

As I look out into the ocean and hear its calm current tones, the words of Psalm 29 ring more vivid than ever. "The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the glory of God thundereth: the Lord is upon many waters. The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty...the Lord will bless His people with peace." This description of power, majesty, and peace could so easily be attributed to the ocean's waters. But, the psalmist tells us that, "The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King forever." As powerful, majestic, and peaceful as the seas are, they are far beneath the power, majesty, and peace found in their Creator.

The last verse of this psalm says, "The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace." The wonder of all wonders is the very God of power, majesty, and peace dwells within each believer, and by Him we possess all of these things. This great God, creator of all the universe, is the very God who sent His son to die for the whole world, and by this makes each who believe on Him His children. What a God we are privileged to know and serve.

Thank the Lord for His never-ceasing unveiling of our minds to His glory by His word, by the Holy Spirit, and even by His creation.
